How does Charge Running work?

During a class, Charge works by accessing your GPS, accelerometer, pedometer, and Cellular signal to send location-based and biometric data to a live Charge Coach. They use this data to recommend speed increases/decreases based on your previous interval speeds.

When running outdoors, why does Charge ask me to turn my Wi-Fi off?

The benefit of a Charge run is the ability to run from anywhere. Most runners start their run just outside their house or apartment while they are still connected to wifi. When the run starts and they begin to run from their house, the transition between wifi and cellular data may drop your audio from the charge run for 10-15 seconds. So we ask you to switch over to cellular data before your run begins so that you do not experience this inconvenience.

When can I join a live Charge Running class?

There are multiple live classes that are provided each day. Just find a time that fits your schedule, join in 5 minutes before the posted class time, and get greeted by a trainer on the other end. It doesn’t matter if you run outside your house, on a treadmill, or at your local park. With Charge, you are connected, no matter where you are. If none of the live classes fit your schedule, simply launch an on-demand run, where you can still get the same Charge experience, whenever it is convenient for you.

Can I join a Charge Running class on a treadmill?

Yes you can! Charge utilizes the sensors in your phone to simulate distance traveled via accelerometer and pedometer. One important note is that you hold the phone on your body, either in your hand, in a waist pocket, or an armband in order to calculate the distance appropriately. If you leave the phone on the treadmill, we are unable to track your stats.

Does Charge work on Apple Watch?

It sure does!! if the Charge app is installed on both your iPhone and Apple Watch, Charge uses the built in sensors on your watch to calculate the distance for you. Keep that phone on the treadmill! It’s important that you keep Charge running on your phone, as the watch relies on your phone in order to transmit, and receive data for the class. If you are having trouble with your Apple Watch collecting your data., force close the Charge app on your Apple Watch once you join a class, and then re-open the app. That should do the trick!
